Increasing Employee Engagement to Your Quality Management System

Engaged employees are productive employees, but it’s not always easy to get everyone onboard quickly with a new quality management system. If you’re having trouble with employee engagement, take a look at these simple tips for increasing employee buy-in to your quality management system.

Define Targets and Goals

Your employees will have a better sense of how their specific job duties and performance impact the overall goal when you clearly define your department’s targets and goals. Not only should you start off by letting all employees know what the targets and goals are and where to find them, you should also keep everyone updated on who is meeting, exceeding, or falling short of these goals.

Maintain Open Lines of Communication

Your employees should know who is responsible for what, but should also feel empowered to ask questions, make suggestions, and improve your standards on their own, without needing to be babysat or micromanaged. A team leader should be welcoming and approachable so employees feel comfortable communicating their ideas, concerns, and progress.

Offer Opportunities for Personalized Learning

Everyone learns at a different pace, and training that works for one person may not work for everyone. If you notice an employee is dragging their feet or not catching on as quickly as others, try empathy before frustration and have a one-on-one conversation about how you can help them learn and meet your QMS standards.

Be Willing to Listen and Improve

Employees who feel unheard or who see their suggestions fall on deaf ears will quickly become dissatisfied with their jobs, and may even feel resentment. It is to everyone’s benefit to always be open to ideas for improvement and to encourage employees to come to you if they see that something isn’t working.
